Wifi in the car. Advisable operator fees and devices

Today we get the impression that everything is connected to the Internet, and what is not connected to this network seems unusual. Thus, not only is it enough to have a smartphone, tablet or computer, but these advances have also touched on speakers and smart TVs. And here a ne w doubt arises and the unknown why cars are not just another device?  medicalnewstodayblog

Connectivity also in cars

This concept can be very useful for family cars, especially in which children will be able to connect to the network to play or watch content in real time. Now, in order to get the Internet in the car, a number of requirements are needed. In fact, data consumption is a factor that contradicts this aspect, because if we have Wi-Fi in the car, we also have to consider that the signal will not be completely stable as we are always on the move.

But in the end it is the same quantity and quality as at home or in a mobile phone. For many people, it is much more convenient to have Wi-Fi in the car, especially on long journeys, as they liken it to being connected to the network as if they were at home.  treasurebiz

And once we decide, we have to see that there are different options for using Wi-Fi in the car, some of them are more expensive than others, but we also have to consider the operators and tariffs that we may be purchasing at that time.

Cars with built-in Wi-Fi

The fastest way to have Internet in your car is to look for a car that already has this technology built in, although choosing the fastest is not always the right one. In fact, many car manufacturers include an integrated eSIM and antenna in their models, which allows you to get the connection as if it were a home router. It is worth highlighting the Opel brand and its Open On Star technology, Audi with AudiConnect, BMW with BMW Car Hotspot LTE or Toyota with Toyota Hotspot.

The first two options are characterized by the presence of an integrated eSIM, while the case of BMW and Toyota is different as we have to place these elements ourselves. However, this option can be even more profitable, because, in this way, we install the SIM card ourselves, which we can adapt to the different tariffs of the manufacturer itself and to the networks that it supports at the time.

- Opel On Star. Opel is one of the main players in the market in terms of connectivity, thanks to the technology developed to connect to the Internet. The German brand offers On Star services free of charge for the first year and at a cost of € 100 every 12 months thereafter. The 4G connection creates a wireless network inside the car so that passengers can connect up to seven devices at the same time. businessrobotic

The car has a built-in SIM card, so there is no need to look for an external item. This partly has its advantages and disadvantages. On the positive side, we don't have to worry about finding a SIM card for the car. But we will have no choice regarding other tariffs and operators that offer this service, which will be offered by an operator with an agreement with Opel.

- Audi Connect. Audi has also been one of the pioneer brands in developing this service for their

vehicles, being one of the brands that have relied on this connectivity for a long time. We have to highlight two different connection cases here, since some cars have a module into which a standard-sized SIM card can be inserted, while the Audi A4, Audi Q7 or the new Audi A3 already has an eSIM or virtual SIM card built into it.

On the other hand, Audi's Wi-Fi network can support up to eight devices connected at the same time, plus the connection also reaches 4G speeds. In alternative variants of models with built-in eSIM, you can choose between different tariffs, which are provided by the same manufacturer, depending on the duration and country. Or use our operator's SIM card if we see that it suits our interests.  digitaltechspot

- BMW LTE car hotspot. BMW did not want to be left behind in the world of connectivity and also decided to bet on the introduction of Wi-Fi in its vehicles, albeit in a different way than the ones mentioned above. In fact, this brand device sits in the center armrest and requires a custom SIM card to create the internet.

- Toyota Hotspot. Apart from German cars, there are also other options, such as the one offered by Toyota, with a system similar to that of BMW, which consists of a router that is compatible with any model of the Japanese brand. Here the user has to insert their own SIM card in order to be able to create an Internet network to which up to five devices can be connected, although it is true that its price is somewhat high (300 euros).

MiFi device to have Wi-Fi in the car

These options are fine if we have cars of these brands, but what if our car is from another manufacturer or you don't have cars that support this option? At first glance, it may seem that we are doomed to lack of communication in the car, but this is far from the truth, since we can always resort to MiFi devices.

In fact, we're talking about devices that serve as small routers that connect to a car to generate electricity, although they sometimes run on batteries or wirelessly. That is, it is a router that connects to the outside through an inserted SIM card, and not through a fiber optic or ADSL cable. However, they do not always have to be used in the car, but this is where they are best used if we are looking for Wi-Fi in the car.

Typically, these are items that allow five to ten devices to be connected in order to have access, and while speeds may vary, they usually offer a maximum of 150 Mbps. But here you also need to be aware that each model may differ, as well as the signal quality and speed that the operator can offer us. Most popular models:

- Huawei E5573C. This system has speeds up to 150 Mbps and supports up to 10 devices at a price of 67.67 euros.

- 4G router TP-Link. It is a device with speeds up to 150 Mbps, a 2000 mAh battery and the maximum number of devices that can be found at a price of 61.72 euros.

- TP - 4G communication router. This device is similar to the previous one, but a screen has been added, so its price increases to 83.78 euros.

- 4G router Likeitwell. Slightly slower than the previous ones (100 Mbps), it can cover up to 10 devices for just € 33.89.

In addition, we can also find operators 'MiFi devices, and in Spain the two main companies offering this service are Movistar and Orange, which are integrated with the operators' own tariffs.

- Movistar car. It was a recent introduction that allows you to have 3 to 4 GB of data in 4G mode for 3 € per month, and also offers navigation, warning, location and other additional features.

- Orange CarWiFi. This invention, which came out in 2015 with Huawei as a co-inventor, is similar to Movistar's, with a 4G router that allows you to have a connection at speeds up to 120 Mbps and up to 10 connected devices. Works with duplicate SIM card.  bizautomotive
